Neighbors have identified the victims of a stabbing attack in Burbank on Monday as a mother and daughter.
he told KTLA Aarti Verma died and her daughter Meera Verma was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
Investigators have not released their identities. The Burbank Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“I’m still shocked by it,” neighbor Christina Stratton told KTLA. “I can’t even say who would do this. Why would anyone target them?”
At approximately 6 a.m. Monday, Burbank police responded to a report of two people stabbed inside a home in the 2800 block of North Brighton Street, according to a news release from Burbank police.

Police said that two women were found inside with knife injuries. One died and one was hospitalized from his injuries.
According to the release, officers searched the area for the suspect, but did not find anyone matching the physical description.
Authorities said the relationship between the suspect and the victims is being investigated.
Detectives are scouring the neighborhood for evidence and reviewing surveillance footage.
As KTLA reports, Aarti was a public school teacher, while Mira is a mental health advocate and public speaker “who has worked with high-profile national figures.” Photos posted on his LinkedIn show him at events with President Joe Biden and Oprah Winfrey, among others.
