US President Donald Trump warned on Tuesday that the US will bomb Iran if an agreement is not reached that protects American interests and the global community. His comments came just before the fragile two-week ceasefire was set to expire on Tuesday evening (Washington time). They came amid uncertainty over the second round of talks between the two sides in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, which had hosted the first round of talks on April 11 and 12 that failed.“The military is eager to go. If we don’t have an agreement that protects our interests and protects the world, we’re going to bomb. It’s that simple. I expect to bomb because I think it’s a better attitude,” the Republican told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in a telephone interview. He added, “But we’re ready to go. I mean the Army is raring to go. They’re absolutely incredible.”Trump also said he was not in favor of extending the ceasefire beyond the current April 22 deadline, and said Tehran had “no choice”.“I don’t want to do that (extend the ceasefire). We don’t have that much time, because by the time both sides get there, as you know, they’ve got the authority to proceed, which I knew they were going to do anyway. I don’t think they had a choice. They have to negotiate,” the president commented. The ceasefire, which was agreed earlier this month to allow space for diplomatic talks, is still very fragile. Both Washington and Tehran have expressed concerns over how it is being enforced. On February 28, the US and Israel launched joint strikes across Iran. The Islamic Republic retaliated, sparking the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.(with ANI input)
