The White House confirmed that Lori Chavez-DeRemer has resigned as US Labor Secretary and will take a role in the private sector.
“Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Deremer will leave the administration to take a position in the private sector,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement, according to CNN.
“She has done phenomenal work in her role by protecting American workers, enforcing fair labor practices, and helping Americans acquire additional skills to improve their lives,” the statement said.
Cheung said Keith Sonderling will serve as acting secretary.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve in this historic administration and to work for the greatest president of our lifetime,” Chávez-DeRemer said.
“I am proud that we have made significant progress in bridging the gap between business and labor and advancing President Trump’s mission to always put American workers first.”
His departure comes amid an internal investigation into alleged misconduct within the Labor Department.
According to CNN, the investigation includes claims of inappropriate behavior and misuse of official travel, which his lawyer dismissed as “prejudicial and absurd allegations against him”.
Chávez-DeRemar, who took office in March 2025, oversaw major workforce reductions and deregulation efforts.
His exit marks the latest high-level departure from the Trump administration in recent weeks.
