King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the British Museum to see the final design of the national memorial to Elizabeth in London’s St. James’s Park, featuring statues of the queen and her late husband Prince Philip.
The royal family released a video of the royal visit along with a brief statement, saying, “Today the King and Queen joined other members of the Royal Family at the British Museum to view a scale model of the new national monument commemorating the life of Queen Elizabeth II.”
It said, “Her Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses met the monument designer Lord Norman Foster, as well as three artists who worked for the site. The model will remain on public display at the British Museum.
The statement concluded, “The tribute will overlook the Mall in central London, and is inspired by a 1955 portrait of the Queen at the age of 28 by Italian artist Pietro Annigone.”
The video shows Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester accompanying the monarch and his wife during the visit. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were not present during the royal family’s museum tour.
Earlier, King Charles paid tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth on her 100th birthday, saying his “dear mother” will “always be in our hearts and prayers”.
