Queen Elizabeth II was upset when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry gave up on life in America.
Her Majesty, who died in 2022, gave a world of opportunities to the Sussex family, who instead decided to live their lives in private and step down from their positions as senior royals.
Writing in his new book, Elizabeth II: In Private. in public . Robert Hardman, author of The Inside Story, writes: “She was deeply troubled and deeply saddened by an opportunity wasted, but she acted decisively.”
As Hardman explained: “Despite giving the couple a cool-off period, (the Queen) privately admitted that she did not think they would change their minds because ‘they took the dogs’.”
The royal expert further wrote of Her Majesty: “Her shy father was an extra person, who came to the throne unexpectedly due to his brother’s abdication. Her sister, Margaret, was an extra person and Elizabeth was always her greatest protector.”
