Joe Maring/Android Authority
TL;DR
- A recent update to Google Wallet introduces live updates for flights.
- It lets you track the progress of your flight straight from your phone’s home or lock screen.
- This feature will also help you track trains and other live events.
Google is expanding support for the Wallet app thanks to Android’s live updates. 9to5Google Note that, with this change, Google Wallet can now show the completion status of your flights through a persistent notification and progress bar. This can be a good way to track how far along you are on a flight (provided it has Wi-Fi) or do the same for a friend or loved one.

As intended with live updates to Android, notifications appear on both the lock screen, notification shade, and always-on display (AOD). When you’re using the phone otherwise, the update is minimized to a small pill-shaped area on the status bar at the top-left corner of the screen.
Live updates to Google Wallet for Flights also complement its existing feature that automatically pulls your flight tickets from Gmail and reminds you to check in a few hours before your flight. Google Wallet’s Nearby Pass functionality also makes ticketing more accessible when it determines you’re arriving at the airport.
Apart from flight tickets, live updates should also display the progress of your train journey and other live “events”. To make sure you get this feature on your phone, make sure you’re running the latest version of Google Wallet, either directly or by updating Google Play Services.
