Samsung’s President and Chief Design Officer, Mauro Porcini, recently sat down Quick Response Podcast Host Bob Safian for an interview. In that interview, Porcini offers some interesting details about the new design philosophy shaping your next Galaxy device.
According to the executive, one pillar of what they’re trying to achieve includes “ensuring that designers are the voice of humanity in the organization.” Porcini says there are four categories the team focuses on: live longer, live better, live louder, and live longer. He then explains the meaning behind these four categories.
Living longer means having technology that monitors your body and supports your physical and mental well-being. The next category, Live Better, deals with technology that saves you time, like AI and productivity tools. Live Loud is about technology that allows you to express yourself, such as creating content for social media. And the final area of focus is live, which is about “surpassing yourself and preserving memories.” For this fourth category, think about taking photos and capturing video.
In addition to these four categories, Porcini says Samsung is pursuing three horizons. The first horizon focuses on incremental improvements to today’s products. Meanwhile, the second horizon is concerned with identifying opportunities for more radical change. The third horizon is to define the future portfolio of the company. Porcini says that this final horizon is where the four categories are most applicable.
