TL;DR
- Wallpaper thumbnails for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold have been found in early Android 17 builds.
- The images reference “Pine” and “Midnight” colors, but these may not be the same colors the phone uses in its branding.
- Google is expected to launch the Pixel 11 Pro Fold this summer, possibly once again in August.
Google has been hard at work on new Android releases for its test tracks recently. Exactly a week ago, we got Android 17 beta 4, and then last night Google surprised us with the release of Android 17 QPR1 beta 1. While we love seeing that movement, it seems like Google might not have intended to share something that broke that early, and now we’re getting an advanced look at the Pixel 11 Pro Fold wallpaper.

Android enthusiasts among us would also love to do the same, software engineers dylan roussel I was digging through these Android 17 previews and looking for anything interesting. In the process, they got some thumbnails of the wallpaper options that Google plans to include in the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. First, we’ve got the one labeled Pine: Tidal Swirl.
he has joined Midnight: Moon Tide.
Roussel cautions that those color names aren’t necessarily indicative of the branding Google may eventually adopt for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s color options, so don’t get too attached to them just yet. Along with the imagery itself and those labels, he also discovered this description: “Running water swirls and flows through winding, rugged landscapes.”
Although these files are so low-resolution that we might not get much satisfaction from prepping our Pixel 10 Pro Fold ahead of time and playing a little show-off, they still look great, and we can’t wait to see how the full versions will come together when Google launches the entire Pixel 11 lineup — likely happening in August, as usual.
Based on what we’ve learned so far about the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, we’re a little worried that Google’s next foldable might seem a little weak, and not really enough to differentiate itself from last year’s model. But we still have three more months before we see this hardware in action, and that’s plenty of time for a surprise or two to emerge.
