Aboud al-Akar, the municipality’s communications director, told the AFP news agency that six Israeli army vehicles had arrived in Nablus in the morning.

He said the soldiers talked to shop owners in the commercial area of Rafidiya district and shot the teenagers as they were leaving the town.

“We don’t know why they shot this child while he was going out,” he said.

The Israeli military said a Palestinian threw stones at its forces during an “operational activity” in the area of Nablus and that forces “initiated the standard suspect capture procedure, which ended with firing on the suspect”.

The army said it was aware of reports that one Palestinian was killed at the scene.

    settler violence

Violence in the occupied Palestinian territory has escalated since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza in October 2023, with Israeli forces and settlers killing hundreds of Palestinians and causing widespread destruction in the West Bank.

Israeli settlers shot dead a 25-year-old Palestinian man yesterday in the town of Deir Dibwan, near Ramallah, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.

It said at least 16 people had been killed in attacks by Israeli settlers this year.

The youngest of the victims was a 13-year-old child and the oldest was a man in his 60s, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
