TL;DR
- Nest Hub (2nd generation) bug verbally confirms that the PM alarm is set for morning.
- The alarm appears to still be set correctly, so this appears to be a verbal confirmation glitch.
- Google says it is aware of the problem, has identified a solution and will share it when it is implemented.
A smart display can do a lot of things wrong without ruining your day. Mishearing a song request or misjudging the weather isn’t the end of the world, but if you ask it to set an alarm for something important in the afternoon, it’s not ideal if it leaves you wondering if it’s set your reminder for the cold, dark misery of 4 a.m. Unfortunately, a strange Google Nest Hub bug is doing just that.
A Reddit user on r/googlehome subreddit Report that their second generation Nest Hub is verbally confirming some PM alarms as AM alarms. If they ask the hub at 1 pm to set an alarm for 4 am, the device responds that the alarm is set for 4 am. The same thing happens when they ask for a 1pm alarm “in three hours”, and the Hub informs them again that their 4am alarm has been implemented.

More reassuring, but still strange, is that the alarm still appears to be set correctly. According to the Redditor, the screen shows the correct PM alarm, and the device actually sets it for the correct time. So it looks like it’s a verbal confirmation bug rather than a gremlin in the machine conspiring to wake them up at an ungodly hour. Still, verbal confirmation is there for reassurance, and telling you it set your alarm for the wrong half of the day isn’t much reassuring.
At least to the Redditor, this appears to be a device-specific issue. They report that their Nest Mini v2 correctly responds with PM when given the same request, which suggests the bug may not affect all Nest devices equally. Although we don’t have enough information from this thread, it can also be distinguished from the second-generation Nest Hub.
There is not a flood of such reports, but we can trust that the issue is real because Google has already admitted that something is wrong. The answer is being given by Official GoogleNestCommunity AccountThe company said: “We are aware of the issue and have identified a solution. We will circle back and let you know when it will be implemented.”
There’s no timeline yet for when this fix will arrive, and considering that the Nest Hub isn’t actually going off alarms at all hours of the night, it may not be Google’s top priority. Meanwhile, if your Nest Hub confidently tells you it’s set a PM alarm for AM, checking the screen won’t give you a moment of panic that your smart display has forgotten how clocks work.
