AI is shaking up many industries around the world, but despite concerns from some analysts, the iPhone appears stronger than ever despite Apple’s AI struggles. And according to Perplexity CEO Arvind Srinivas, this is no coincidence.

Perplexity CEO says iPhone will only benefit from continued AI improvements

The iPhone is a world-changing consumer product that somehow continues to grow in success. For example, Apple’s last report was the company’s biggest ever and the best quarter ever for the iPhone.

Yet as AI continues to disrupt various markets globally, some have wondered whether the iPhone will eventually take over as a new, AI-focused product or way of computing.

Perplexity CEO Arvind Srinivas certainly doesn’t think so.

speaking on latest episode of This week in AI podcastSrinivas indicated that the iPhone itself will benefit from continued AI improvements.

Here is my opinion. I have not said this before. The phone, the iPhone, isn’t really being disrupted by AI at all. In fact, the more AI works the better, the iPhone essentially becomes your digital passport.

The Perplexity CEO cites Apple’s ecosystem and silicon advantages as some of the reasons the iPhone is poised for continued success. In his view, this is why Apple can afford to move slowly with its long-delayed Siri overhaul.

My sense is that even though a lot of people have opinions on how bad Siri is or how good Siri is, (Apple has) the ability to take the time and do the things they want to do, because as a brand they have advantages that people really trust. Ecosystem lock-in is underestimated. The supporting hardware devices, the chip benefits, it’s all really undervalued right now.

Srinivas also mentioned how the iPhone is central to people’s lives for many reasons that have nothing to do with AI.

He says, “It has your wallet, it has all your cards, it has you, it has your health records, you connect with other human beings through it, you FaceTime, you make calls, you have photos of precious moments of your life.” These are all extremely personal, and as a result, users will not easily move away from the iPhone.

What do you think of Perplexity’s CEO’s thoughts on the importance of the iPhone in the AI world? Let us know in the comments.
