Helena Bonham Carter, best known for playing Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter franchise, has exited The White Lotus and her role will now be recast.
The 59-year-old actress is leaving the HBO show, which has already begun shooting season four, because her character “didn’t align once on set.”
An HBO spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline, “With filming of Season 4 of The White Lotus currently underway, it became clear that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set. The role has subsequently been reconsidered, rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”
He added, “HBO, the producers, and Mike White are saddened that she will not get the chance to work with her, but they are avid fans of hers and hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Failla, Ari Graynor, Max Greenfield, Charlie Hall, Marisa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, Jarrad Paul, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz were previously announced as the cast for season four.
The fourth season of the show will take place at a luxury resort in France, with filming locations on the French Riviera including Cannes, St. Tropez and Monaco.
The Arles Château de la Mesardière in Saint-Tropez will double as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hotel MartÃnez as the White Lotus Cannes.
Some filming will also take place in Paris.
The show began in 2021 with a season set in Hawaii, followed by installments in Italy and Thailand.
