Prince Harry arrived in Kiev for a surprise visit on Thursday, just days before his father King Charles begins a state visit to the United States hosted by President Donald Trump.
“Prince Harry arrived in Kiev for an unannounced visit,” Ukraine’s government agency Center for Countering Disinformation said on social media.
Ukraine’s national railway operator published video of him getting off the train after arriving in the Ukrainian capital.
Harry has previously visited the war-torn country to support wounded veterans as part of his Invictus Games Foundation.
Reflecting on the visit, Prince Harry said: “This visit has reinforced a truth the world cannot forget – that the scars of war do not disappear when the fighting stops.”
“They endure in the lives of those who have served and sacrificed, and in the land beneath their feet, where landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to threaten communities long after the front lines have moved.”
He added, “Recovery is measured not in moments, but in decades – and it demands our continued attention, commitment and care. Too often, our focus is on how conflicts end, rather than how peace is maintained; yet it is in that long, quiet work of recovery where the future is truly secure.”
Earlier, Harry urged the United States to play a decisive role in ending Russian aggression and called on Russian leader Vladimir Putin to “stop this war.”
