As one expert notes, the royal family is facing a serious image problem.
King Charles and his family are unable to bond with the general public due to their aging group of senior royals.
Speaking about the failings of the royal family and brand image, royal expert Jenny Bond told the Mirror: “There’s no denying the fact that the image of working royals today is largely that of an older group of people – and that creates a disconnect between the monarchy and the younger generation.”
“When William and Harry were pin-up boys, and then Catherine and Meghan came on the scene, young people were naturally more engaged and excited,” Jenny explained. “And I’ve always thought that apathy, especially among young people, is the biggest threat to the popularity of the monarchy.”
Jenny said: “The palace needs to find a way to maintain (the younger generation’s) interest. And that’s not easy when there is also intense pressure to hold the monarchy accountable and keep the costs of working royals down.”
“And that’s why I think it’s unlikely that people like Lady Louise or James, The Earl of Wessex will take on official royal duties – even if they wanted to, which is very unlikely anyway,” he said.
