    listen to devotion

(Jesus said) “I am the door; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in, go out, and find pasture.”
    John 10:9

    Through Christ alone!

“I don’t know yet. I’ll have to think about it some more.” That was all John could say. He wasn’t sure whether he could agree with what Paul had said to him.

Paul had just told his friend about the way to heaven. He wanted to make sure that John knew that only through Jesus could he be saved. This worried John and he asked him, “Then, what about all those who do not believe in Jesus? Will God cast out good, moral people if they do not believe?”

The debate is still going on. People like John still think there are many ways to enter heaven. However, Jesus reveals something quite different. There is only one way to enter heaven, and that is through Him. When He says, “I am the door,” there are only two things that can happen. The door of heaven will be opened, or the door will be closed, and the only way the door can be opened is through Jesus Christ.

Despite what Jesus says, there is still hopeless hope that other options exist. I can also hope that there are other ways that God will find acceptable. Unfortunately, all else fails because entry is only through Christ.

Jesus is the only way because He did what was necessary for me and all people to enter Heaven. Jesus provided the perfect, obedient life His Father required, which I could never live. Jesus paid His Father the full price that was required, and which I could never repay.

Without Jesus, I may wish to be in heaven, but I will never enter it. This is why I need to look to Jesus alone. He makes it possible for me to come to heaven, where He joyfully welcomes me. Then I will have everything I want and I will live in never-ending happiness. How blessed I am to know that I am saved only through Christ.

    Prayer:

Oh dear Jesus, my Lord and my Savior, you have provided the way to heaven, and you have called me to enter into eternal life through your Word. Give me the faith I need to believe that I am saved only through You. Amen.
