Meryl Streep cried after hearing a sweet message from the actress who played her onscreen daughter more than 45 years ago.
​The three-time Oscar-winning actress recently appeared on a French news program Journal Day 20 Hours To promote the upcoming sequel of Devil Wears PradaWith his costar Stanley Tucci.
​During a conversation with the outlet, host Laurent Delahousse recalled Meryl’s performance in the 1982 Holocaust drama. Sophie’s Choice And gave him a tablet.
​On the tablet’s screen, a video message changed Meryl’s expression to one of shock when she recognized that Jennifer Lejeune, the actress who played her daughter in Sophie’s Choice, was speaking.
Jennifer can be heard saying in her interview on the French show, “Amazing how it stays with you. I even told my mother that (Streep) was my favorite mother, because Meryl Streep was always nice to me and played with me.”
The former child star concluded, “I think if she hadn’t been able to create that bond with me, we would have never gotten the kind of reaction we had on set.”
Putting her hand on her heart, Merrill asked, “That’s the baby?”
When she learned that Jennifer was now grown, Meryl said, “Oh my God, it’s amazing.”
​The 76-year-old actress also inquired about Jennifer’s whereabouts, to which show host Laurent revealed that she now lives in Paris.
“It’s amazing,” Merrill said of the video. “It’s beautiful, thank you for it. What a gift. Journalists never give me gifts!”
Sophie’s ChoiceBased on the novel by William Styron, it tells the story of a Holocaust survivor named Sophie who is given the choice between the lives of one of her two young children in Nazi concentration camps, and how she later finds a reason to stay with Nathan, an unstable American Jew who is obsessed with the Holocaust.
