Through My Bible Year 03 – April 27
genesis 49
Jacob blesses his sons
1 Jacob called his sons and said, Gather together, so that I can tell you what will happen to you in the days to come. (1)
2 Come together, O sons of Jacob, and hear this.
Listen to your father Israel.
3 Reuben, you are my firstborn, my strength,
And the beginning of my passion,
Excellence in dignity and excellence in power.
4 You will not become great even if you boil like water,
Because you went to your father’s bed,
And you defiled it.
He went all the way to my sofa!
5 Simeon and Levi are brothers.
their daggers (2) There are weapons of violence.
6 O my soul, do not enter their assembly.
O my glory, do not attend their gathering.
Yes, in their anger they killed humans.
In their anger they crushed the bulls.
7 Cursed be their anger, for it was terrible.
Cursed be their anger, for it was cruel.
I will distribute them among Jacob.
I will scatter them throughout Israel.
8 Judah, your brothers will praise you.
Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies.
Your father’s sons will worship you.
9 Judah is a lion cub.
O my son, you have risen above hunting.
He bent down. He bowed down like a lion.
She is like a lioness. Who will provoke him?
10 The scepter will not leave Judah,
Nor the ruler’s stick from between his legs,
Until the one to whom it belongs comes. (3)
He will get the obedience of the people.
11 He will tie his child to a vine,
Bring his donkey’s foal to the best vine.
He has washed his clothes in wine,
His clothes are stained with grape blood.
12 His eyes will be darker than wine,
His teeth are whiter than milk. (4)
13 Zebulun will reside on the seashore.
It will provide a landing place for ships.
His border will extend towards Sidon.
14 Issachar is a strong donkey,
Lying between the saddlebags. (5)
15 He saw a resting place which was good.
He saw a land that was pleasant.
He bends his shoulders under the burden
And while doing forced labour, he becomes a slave.
16 Dan will judge his people
As one of the tribes of Israel.
17 There will be a snake in the path of charity,
A snake on the way.
It bites the horse’s heel,
Due to which its rider falls backwards.
18 I have waited for your salvation, O! God.
19 The attackers will attack the silt,
But he will attack their heels.
20 Asher’s food will be delicious.
He will prepare dishes worthy of a king.
21 Naphtali is a deer that has become free,
He raises beautiful deer kids. (6)
22 Joseph is a fruitful vine,
A fruitful vine on the bank of a waterfall.
Its branches pass over the wall. (7)
23 The archers attacked them fiercely.
They shot at him and harassed him,
24 But his bow remained steady.
his arms and hands were strengthened
By the hands of the mighty one of Jacob,
in the name of (8) Shepherd, Stone of Israel,
25 I swear by the God of your father, who will help you,
By the Almighty, who will bless you
With blessings from heaven above,
Blessings from the depths below,
Blessings from the breasts and from the womb.
26 Your father’s blessings are greater than your father’s blessings
my parents, (9)
Greater than the treasures of the ancient hills.
They will rest on the head of Joseph,
On the forehead of one who is higher than his brothers.
27 Benjamin is a dire wolf.
In the morning he will eat the prey.
In the evening he will distribute the loot.
28 These are all the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father told them when he blessed them. He gave appropriate blessings to each one. 29 He taught them and said to them, I am returned to my people; bury me with my ancestors in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite. 30 In the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is near Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite, along with its field for a tomb. 31 There they buried Abraham and his wife Sarah. There they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there they buried Leah also. 32 That field and the cave in it were bought from the descendants of Hittt.” (10)
Jacob’s death and burial
33 When Jacob finished instructing his sons, he raised his feet on the bed, took his last breath, and gathered among his people.
