Jimmy Kimmel finally broke his silence after President Trump demanded ABC fire him over his jokes about Melania Trump.
On Monday’s episode of his late night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The TV host responded to recent criticism. He insisted that a joke made on his show days before the White House correspondents’ dinner was being misinterpreted as a call for violence.
He clarified that it was “obviously a joke about their age difference and Melania’s expression.”
He further said of Trump’s age, “It was a very light joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than me.” “This was in no way a call for murder and they know I have been very vocal for many years, particularly speaking out against gun violence.”
After this Jimmy apologized to the President and the First Lady.
Speaking directly to Melania, he said, “I’m sorry that you and the President and everyone in that room on Saturday went through what you went through. I really am.”
Jimmy continued, “Just because no one got killed doesn’t mean it wasn’t painful and scary. And we should come together and be the best we can be. We should really do that.”
“But if you want us to believe that the joke I made three days before this dinner had any effect on anything that happened, then maybe you should also look into this psychotic woman,” the TV personality said.
During the April 23 episode, Jimmy joked that Melania looked like a “pregnant widow.”
Following the host’s comments, Trump called for ABC to fire Jimmy for jokes about his wife.
