Fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who is out of the Indian team, has said that Mohsin Khan cannot be given immediate support for selection in India despite his performances as there are a lot of concerns regarding the player’s injury.

Fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who is out of the Indian team, has revealed that although Mohsin is a very talented cricketer and a good bowler in terms of quality, his name has not been considered for selection in the Indian team yet due to his serious injury concerns.
“He is a talented bowler, but you can’t immediately make decisions about national selection based on just a few matches. Fitness is a big concern for him. He often plays a few matches and then gets injured, causing him to miss the entire season. Selectors look for consistency – how much cricket you have played and how your body is,” Umesh Yadav said in an interview with RevSportz.
“To be considered at the higher level, he has to play the entire domestic season – Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali – and perform consistently. Only then can he progress to India A and eventually the national team,” the Indian star said.
Mohsin Khan’s great form in IPL 2026
The 28-year-old young fast bowler Mohsin Khan was first selected by Lucknow Super Giants and has been a part of the franchise since his debut season in 2022. However, despite being a part of all these seasons, he has only played 28 matches for the franchise.
He played his first full season in 2022, where he played 9 matches and took 14 wickets at an impressive average of 14.07 and an economy of less than 6. His next long season came in 2024 when he took 10 wickets in 10 matches for the Super Giants.
After missing the entire season in 2025 due to injury, after returning to the team in 2026, Mohsin Khan has played just 4 matches and taken 9 wickets, including a five-for in the last game against Kolkata Knight Riders. His performance this season has been with an average of 11.33 and economy of 6.38.
Umesh Yadav’s latest opinion on the possible selection of his former teammate Mohammed Shami
When asked whether Umesh Yadav’s former Indian teammate Mohammed Shami should be given a chance to break into the Indian team again, Umesh was all praise for the LSG fast bowler.
Yadav said, “Shami is currently bowling at around 140 km/h and is getting good swing. If he continues to perform at that level, he definitely deserves an opportunity. When a player proves himself through performances, especially after consistent efforts, then he should be considered for selection.”
He said that domestic players, be it Mohammed Shami or Bhuvneshwar Kumar, if they are performing well and consistently in the domestic matches, then they should be given a fair chance to return to the team.
“You can’t suddenly dismiss a player and say his time is up. Selection should be based on performance and fitness. If a bowler plays the entire Ranji Trophy season, performs consistently and takes wickets, he has earned the right to be considered. Whatever opportunity he gets, he should be given a fair chance,” he said.
