A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to plotting a terrorist attack targeting a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.
Notably, the freezing plan caused Swift to cancel her 2024 performances in the city.
tmz The report said the suspect, identified as Baron A under Austrian privacy laws, admitted to planning the attack on the Ernst Happel Stadium, where the Lover hitmaker was scheduled to perform three sold-out shows as part of his The Eras Tour.
Authorities have revealed that the accused now faces a possible prison sentence of up to 20 years.
Additionally, prosecutors allege that the accused intended to target the massive crowd gathered for the concerts, which included 65,000 people inside the stadium and thousands more outside, with authorities citing that Beron’s goal was to “kill as many people as possible”.
It is pertinent to mention that the suspect was initially charged with several terrorism-related crimes, including alleged links to ISIS. Two of Beran’s associates and a third person had reportedly planned other attacks in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates during Ramadan 2024.
However, it is unclear whether he has admitted every charge.
Taylor Swift had to cancel a Vienna concert at the time, but refused to back down from the threats. An insider said at the time, “Taylor is devastated by this. She’s devastated for the fans who have been waiting years to see her.”
He added, “But she has told her team that she wants to try to return to Vienna as soon as possible in the future. She is very conscious of how disappointed her fans are in Austria.”
