Greenrock Strategic Materials PLC (AIM: GROC)The company, focused on the development of critical mineral projects in Greenland, is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the fabrication, commissioning and initial operational testing of a graphite anode mill circuit at the company’s Graphite Active Anode Materials (“AAM”) pilot plant in Denmark.

    Main characteristics:

    • All components of the graphite mill circuit were successfully commissioned and tested in what the directors believe is Europe’s first natural flake graphite pilot plant.
    • The mill circuit, which includes both micronization and spherification lines, is designed to produce spheroidal graphite for AAM.
    • The complete graphite mill line has a processing capacity of approximately 100 kg of feedstock per day, producing both main and fine grain products.
    • Initial trials with 100 kg graphite concentrate were successful.
    • Product evaluation is being conducted in Greenrock’s in-house laboratory and will be complemented by SEM imaging at the Technical University of Denmark.
    • The only part of the pilot plant that remains to be added is the purification line, which is undergoing final design and equipment sourcing with installation expected in H2, 2026.

    Greenrock’s AAM Pilot Plant

GreenRock is building a pilot processing plant to produce spherical pure graphite, a precursor material for AAM, from graphite concentrate produced at the company’s planned graphite mine in Amitsok in southern Greenland. The complete pilot plant circuit will consist of a micronizing mill line, a circular mill line and a purification line. The micronizing line takes natural graphite pieces from ca. The 95% graphite concentrate feedstock and first graphite flakes are milled to a narrow standard size of ca 20 μm (0.020 mm or 20 μm) using a QWJ60 mill (60 cm diameter mill) with an integrated air classifier, which allows only graphite grains of a certain maximum size to pass (see Figure 1).

After micronization to a standard particle size, the graphite is passed through several circular lineWhich includes a QWJ30 shaping mill (30 cm diameter) with a built-in air classifier, a secondary air classifier, a cyclone and finally a dust filter (see Figure 2).

The entire line is capable of processing ca. 100 kg feedstock graphite per day, depending on customer requirement, produces both a main product with an average particle size (or D50) of ca 12-20μm and a finer grained by-product with D50 of 7-15μm.

The graphite mill lines were delivered to the company’s premises in Horsholm, Denmark in early March 2026 from a leading manufacturer of graphite mills in China. Since then, Greenrock’s dedicated pilot plant team has been busy building the mills and fitting electrical wiring, control boxes, pressurized air, vents and exhaust mufflers etc. as well as carrying out individual testing of various mill components.

On April 23, the first 100 kg of test graphite material was processed through the micronizer mill. The graphite feedstock test material being used is a -195 graphite concentrate (meaning >95% graphite concentrate with grain size finer than 100 mesh or 150 micrometers) which is the typical feedstock product for making graphite AAM. After micronizing the graphite particles, the graphite was run through the circular line several times.

These initial tests have been very successful with all equipment running smoothly. The mills are expected to be ready for trial production in the coming weeks with some minor modifications, mostly to improve monitoring and enhance safety, to produce spheroidal graphite while respecting battery industry requirements and to further calibrate and optimize controls.

This early-stage product evaluation is being conducted at GreenRock’s in-house laboratory facilities, hosting both the Malvern laser particle and tapped-density analyzers, which will be complemented using the scanning electron microscopy (“SEM”) imaging facility at the Technical University of Denmark.

    GreenRock CEO Stephen Bernstein commented:

“We are pleased with the successful commissioning of the graphite mill lines at our AAM pilot plant, which we believe to be Europe’s first natural flake graphite pilot plant, marking an important milestone in our journey to supply high quality spherical pure graphite to European customers. The smooth commissioning and operation of the mills, a process that took less than two months, is a testament to the dedication and expertise of Greenrock’s pilot plant team. “We look forward to optimizing pilot production and moving toward commercial product quality.”

    About Greenrock

GreenRock Strategic Materials PLC is an AIM-quoted UK public company focused on developing the Amitsok graphite project in Greenland into a producing mine to meet the significant demand for new, high-grade and conflict-free sources of graphite from electric vehicle (‘EV’) manufacturers in Europe and North America. Amitsok is one of the highest grade graphite reserves in the world with a combined measured, indicated and inferred JORC resource of 23.05 million tonnes (MT) at an average grade of 20.41% graphite, enough to sustain several decades of mining. GreenRock received an exploitation license from the Government of Greenland on 8 December 2025, valid for 30 years.

Plans for the Amitsok project include the construction of a facility to further process mined graphite into active anode material – an essential component of Li-batteries – the plans of which have been independently and positively evaluated at the pre-feasibility study stage.

GreenRock has partnered with Norwegian battery manufacturer Morro Batteries to establish a regional supply chain. The Amitsok project has been designated a strategic project by the European Union and in March 2025 it was also ESG-certified by Digbee™, an independent platform that provides sustainability assessments for the mining industry. In October 2025, Greenrock A binding secured credit facility for 5.2 million euros was signed from the Danish Export and Investment Fund (“EIFO”), to finance the company’s work programme. In December 2025, GreenRoc, together with its consortium partners DTU and IPU, has been awarded a sum of up to DKK 10,448,826 (ca £1.2m) from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (“EU-Graphite): building European production of graphite active anode material” (“EU-Graphite”) from the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (“EUDP”), a Danish government funding programme.
