During a red carpet interview, the entertainment-industry veteran Suzanne De Passe Reflects on the moment she knew Laura Harrier should play her michaelThe Michael Jackson biopic which officially released in theaters on April 24. “I saw him sitting (in front of me), and he reminded me of me,” she said. tells Entertainment Tonight. “It wasn’t intellectual. It was energetic.” I won’t pretend to have even a shred of De Passe’s gift for recognizing talent (she discovered the Jackson 5 in 1968 and played an integral role in shaping Diana Ross’s solo career in the ’70s), but I can confirm that the actress’ energy is absolutely magnetic — even over Zoom from nearly 3000 miles away.
As we enjoy moments of getting ready with a plate of chicken tenders (“my go-to glam order,” she tells me) and a glass of champagne, Harrier is warm and funny. She says, “I love having a team of girls. It works really well with my glamour. We’re playing music, spilling tea, laughing. … It’s always a fun atmosphere.” As we continue to talk about her day ahead of the film’s LA premiere, including her event beauty staples and funniest outing memories (spoiler: it involves a tiny bag and a guy diving into the pool on her behalf), I can’t help but think I’d fit right in. Scroll ahead, and you, too, will feel immersed in the Harrier’s inner circle.

Since the theater was not far from her house, Harrier invited the girls to dress up – celebrity makeup artist Nina Park and hair stylist irinel de leonWho also worked as a DJ. “She was playing a lot of fun Afrobeats, which I really like. Burna Boy, Wizkid, stuff like that,” Harrier shared.
A Nina Park glam session is my number one beauty-editor dream, so of course, I had to follow up with all of her burning makeup questions. What was the inspiration? Any references they liked? What was the park’s process? “With Nina, we rarely do inspo, no matter how crazy it sounds,” Harrier revealed. “Sometimes before a big event, she draws a face chart of what she wants to do. She draws my face on pieces of paper. We discuss it more rather than looking at the specific context of other people’s work.” This is understandable. After all, Park’s signature work Is The ultimate reference, inspiring a whole movement of lived-in, toasted complexions and dusky, cool-toned lips.
For michael premiere, the inspiration was none other than Harrier herself, as Park took inspiration from the actress’ everyday glam look. “She was looking at a photo of my fitting with my stylist Danielle Goldberg and saying, ‘I love this lip you had on here. What makeup were you wearing?’ Harrier tells. “She really takes these natural moments and brings them to life, which I think is the genius of her talent. She’ll make you look like the best version of yourself, but it will never feel heavy or costumey.”
The lip in question came courtesy of some chiseled, brown gloss YSL Kiss Shaper Lip Liner in Cocoa Flirt And Loveshine Lip Oil Stick in Melted HoneyHarrier threw both in his bag before leaving for the premiere. “I always carry my lips with me,” she shares, adding that she also loves the brand candy glaze lip gloss. “I have every color.” From there, she’ll make sure to bring a setting powder-YSL All Hours Hyper Blur Loose Setting Powder-Just “if he (she) gets shiny on the carpet” as well as a disposable spoolie To raise his eyebrows.

She doesn’t keep a travel-sized scent on her at all times (“I’m always impressed by those,” she quips), though she does wear a fair amount. Coqui Coqui Coco Coco Eau De Parfum Before hitting the road. “I went to his shop when I was in Yucatan, this little town outside of Merida,” she says. “Before I leave the house, I shower myself with water (and) let it soak in all day.”
This is a smart technique for making perfumes last longer, as Harrier has nothing else to fit in her cute mini bag – not even a one milliliter sample. “I didn’t take any photos in it, but[at the premiere]I had this little old gold mesh bag that felt like Michael’s brand. It was shiny and gold,” she tells me. The usual bag of his choice, Saint Laurent Mini Le 5 à 7It is that small. “I just love a small bag, to the extent that it never fits my phone,” she says, laughing. “I actually wore this to a party the other day. I hugged someone, and my phone fell into the pool because it was sticking out of the bag. This guy had to go and get my phone out of the pool for me, all because I chose to wear a bag that wouldn’t fit my phone. It’s not practical, but it’s really cute.” breath. Stars, they’re just like us.
