Prince William, Prince of Wales, has issued a personal message after rugby player George North announced his retirement.
On Wednesday, via the official Instagram handle of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the future king praised the “special memories” the rugby player has given to the game.
Sharing a video clip of one of George’s iconic British & Irish Lions moments, where George tackled and passed Israel Folau, William wrote on his Stories, “Strength and pace on the pitch, George North at his very best.”
He added, “From the Wales Six Nations win to that unforgettable moment on the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia, there are so many special memories.”
“Thank you, George, for everything you have given to Welsh rugby. Best wishes to you in the future,” Prince William added, signing off with his initials “W”.
George North, Wales and Lions legend, announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the current season. Sharing the news via an emotional social media video on April 29, 2026, George said that after living his “childhood dream” for 16 years it was the “right time” to step down.
It is pertinent to mention that for William, a dedicated sports fan, this news came while he was celebrating a major milestone in his personal life.
The Prince of Wales celebrated his 15th wedding anniversary with Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, on April 29.
