make some necessary space
When the keyboard is not on the screen, pressing and holding the Essential key will take a screenshot and allow you to take notes about what’s on the screen. If your keyboard is on screen, pressing and holding the Essentials key will engage Essentials Voice, which you can read about below. Once you’ve captured a screenshot with the required keys, tapping the yellow arrow will send the screenshot (and any notes you’ve made) to the required location for organization.
Double-clicking the Essentials key opens the Essentials space, which is a catch-all for your memories and notes throughout the day. Essential Spaces will automatically analyze the content of anything sent, and you can search for anything via the hourglass icon in the bottom right. It’s a great way to keep track of everyday thoughts and moments, with a clever events section that automatically parses any event captured in a screenshot.
voice needed for protection
Whenever the keyboard is on your phone’s screen, pressing and holding the Essentials key on the left side of the phone will start an Essentials voice recording. Essential Voice is designed as a natural language voice dictation suite, meaning you can press and hold a key, then speak what’s on your mind for as long as you want, without worrying that it will convert all your “ums” and “uhs” into text.
To use Essential Voice, you must have the keyboard on the screen. Tap where you want to type, then press and hold the required key on the side of the phone. As soon as you hold it, a yellow icon will appear on the screen (pictured above) showing that your voice is being recorded. Hold the button for as long as you want to talk and release when you’re done.
At that time, the yellow icon will change, showing that the message is being transcribed, and your text will appear the moment it is complete. Alternatively, you can tap the Essential Voice button at the bottom left of the keyboard, say whatever you want, then tap it again to stop recording.
welcome to the playground
nothing playground (Access it here) is where essential apps live. I can definitely relate to being frustrated with the widgets offered by some apps, and it’s now easy to create your own widgets with zero coding knowledge.
To get started, go to Essential Apps Builder. Tap the plus button to start a new app, then type your app idea in the box provided. Nothing AI will take over the reins from there, creating a small app that aims to do exactly what you need and nothing more. After creating a version of the app, you can ask him to modify the app as he wishes, or simply start from scratch. It’s easy to make small changes and undo them if you don’t like them.
Once you’ve created an app and are happy with it, it’s easy to add it to your homescreen. Simply publish the app using the Publish button in the Essential Apps Builder, then go to your phone’s homescreen and follow these instructions:
1. Long press any empty area on the Home screen, then tap widget On the pop-up menu.
2. Swipe on leftmost tabWhich includes essential apps.
3. Tap the required app You want to add to your homescreen.
4. Tap explore more To see all apps built by the community.
gear up with glyph
The glyph interface has been one of the key defining features of Nothing’s phone design over the years, but the shape and function have changed with each generation. This year’s glyph interface is an evolved version of the glyph matrix “display” that began with Nothing Phone 3, and it’s much more powerful than the simple LED lights on the back of the old Nothing Phone.
The glyph matrix is designed to give you visible information when you turn your phone over. Many people like to place their phone face down on the table while sitting, and the Matrix is a great way to see things like notifications, phone calls, or other information without having to pick up your phone or turn on the full screen.
To get started, open System Settings by finding Settings in the app drawer, then tap glyph interface In the settings menu. Right at the top, you can control the brightness of the glyph matrix or even turn it off completely. Scrolling down gives you several options to choose from. I recommend focusing on these first:
Volume Indicator: The glyph matrix will give you a visual circular indicator of the volume level when pressing the volume button.
Glyph Timer: The glyph matrix turns into an hourglass that fills as your timer counts down to zero.
Glyph Progression: The glyph matrix will display a progress bar that fills as an event progresses. My favorite use for this is calendar entries, as it will give you a quick visual indicator of how much time is left until a scheduled event.
These are all great little utilities, but this time it’s Glyph Toys that will start the show. In the Glyph interface menu, tap flip glyphthen choose always on glyph toy from the list. Turn on the feature by selecting the toggle at the top of the screen, then select one of the cool toys from the list.
Nothing only offers four toys by default, but the Nothing brand is all about community, and that means people have created tons of additional toys that you can easily add to your phone. just tap that little hourglass icon At the top right, and you will be taken to the Glyph Toys section of the Nothing Playground.
Glyph Toys automatically sorts by the model phone you’re using, and sorting by things like popularity helps surface more exciting or useful options. The Glyph Leveler may be my favorite, but you can find many other fun toys in the playground. Simply tap on the one you want, then click Install. These additional toys can usually be found in the phone’s quick toggles and are activated by put the phone screen down To activate the glyph interface.
Nothing regularly updates and improves its phones, adds new features, and generally seems to be the leader in terms of cool new AI toys for its phones. Stay tuned for more tips and tricks and enjoy your Nothing Phone 4A Pro!
