Jimmy Kimmel faced criticism from US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania after he mocked Trump by calling her a “hopeful widow”.
Two days later, a gunman attacked the White House correspondents’ dinner where the couple was present but remained unharmed.
Following the incident, the First Lady criticized the late-night host for having exes for what she called a disrespectful comment.
“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is aimed at dividing our country. His monologue about my family is not comedy – his words are corrosive and deepen the political sickness within America.”
He wrote, “Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to take a stand. People like Kimmel should not have the opportunity to enter our homes every evening to spread hate.”
Her husband Trump completely agreed.
Echoing his sentiment, the President criticized Kimmel on Truth Social and demanded that ABC fire him.
However, as Page Six reports, the network stood behind the late-night host.
“ABC holds on to Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. host and don’t plan on suspending him, firing him, or canceling the show,” the insider shared, adding, “It’s back to taping as usual. They are moving forward.”
Despite the support, the network appears to be under pressure after the US Federal Communications Commission quickly reviewed ABC’s parent company Disney’s license.
