(Worthy News) – Tensions escalated on Israel’s northern border on Wednesday when gunfire broke out between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, underscoring the fragility of the so-called ceasefire. The Israeli military leadership clarified that, on the ground, active combat operations are still ongoing.
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir categorically stated that “there is no ceasefire” in southern Lebanon, stressing that Israeli troops are fully engaged in neutralizing the threats posed by the Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist group.
Speaking during a visit to Israeli bases in the southern Lebanese city of Tayyebeh, Zamir said the IDF had established a security line designed to prevent direct attacks on northern Israeli communities. He said Israeli forces could remain in the area indefinitely until long-term security was achieved.
Zamir reinforced Israel’s commitment to protecting its citizens, saying, “We will not tolerate attacks and shootings on our communities and we will not give up until long-term security for northern communities is ensured.”
Despite diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region, hostilities continued. Hezbollah launched two rockets toward Israel’s Upper Galilee on Wednesday, one of which was intercepted and the other fell in an open area. The IDF described the attack as a violation of the ceasefire understanding.
Meanwhile, Lebanese officials accused Israel of carrying out attacks beyond the designated security zone. The Lebanese Armed Forces reported that an attack in Khirbet Selam killed a soldier and his brother, while earlier incidents reportedly killed paramedics and wounded soldiers during rescue operations.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said his government was working to “consolidate” the ceasefire, although events on the ground indicate a volatile and unresolved conflict.
Zamir stressed that when it comes to destroying terrorist infrastructure and eliminating threats, Israeli actions beyond the so-called “Yellow Line” and also north of the Litani River remain unrestricted. However, he said that, for now, forces are not advancing deeper into Lebanese territory.
The ongoing clashes come amid broader regional tensions, as Israel’s security cabinet convened in Tel Aviv to assess developments involving both Lebanon and the broader conflict involving Iran.
