In match number 42 between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli gave a rousing farewell to his Team India captain Shubman Gill after taking a sharp catch in the cover region. Gill tried to play an uphill drive to Bhuvneshwar Kumar and did not get the required height, giving the former India captain an easy catch.
The incident occurred during the last ball of the fifth over, when Virat Kohli hit the ball on the ground and celebrated his aggressive on the field. With the catch, Shubman Gill departed after playing a blazing inning of 43 runs off 18 balls, putting GT in a good position while chasing 156 runs.
There was a heated argument between Virat Kohli
Earlier in the night, Virat Kohli was seen arguing with the fourth umpire during the first innings when RCB captain Rajat Patidar was given out after Jason Holder took a controversial catch as the ball was touching the ground while completing the catch and he was given out.
Virat and head coach Andy Flower soon went to the fourth umpire and both looked excited and were chatting after the fall of the wicket. This decision will definitely be one of the most controversial moments, as there have been umpiring mistakes in previous games in IPL 2026.
Virat Kohli made a new record
The 37-year-old played a good innings of 28 runs from 13 balls, looking in good touch, but could not convert his start into another big score. He was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, who was hit for five consecutive fours by the RCB batsman in the fast bowler’s very first over.
Kohli once again registered his name in the history books. On Thursday, he became the first player in the world to score 8000 IPL runs in India. Kohli, playing his 232nd IPL match, achieved this feat by hitting Rabada for a four on the third ball of the second over of RCB’s innings. Earlier he had become the first batsman to score 9,000 IPL runs.
