YouTube has introduced a new feature by which users can now minimize YouTube videos into a smaller, movable window while using other apps on their iPhones and iPads.
The world’s top video streaming platform has introduced its picture-in-picture “PIP” mode to all users around the world at no extra charge.
About Picture in Picture (PIP)
“Picture in Picture” lets users watch videos in a small window while using other apps on their phone.
The video continues playing even when you switch apps, and you can move or resize the mini-player on your screen.
This feature is not new to premium users in the US or around the world. The recent release of this feature gives all international users access to Pip for “longform, non-music content” on iOS and Android platforms.
This ends a long-standing restriction that limited the feature to US users and premium subscribers.
With this feature, users can now minimize YouTube videos into a small, movable window while using other apps on their iPhones and iPads.
A YouTube spokesperson said that changes related to this feature will be rolled out to users’ accounts “in the coming months”, meaning the process will take some time.
The upgrade is unlikely to affect any benefits already available to premium users.
This is because Premium Lite users can continue to use PiP for long-form, non-music videos, while full Premium users can take advantage of PiP’s special offering of music and non-music videos.
To activate YouTube’s PiP feature, follow these steps:
To activate the feature you need to follow these steps:

*Start playing any long format video (except music videos)
*Exit the YouTube app.
*Video will automatically shorten
*Now you can open any other app
*Control the picture-in-picture window by dragging it anywhere on the screen
Additionally, PiP for music videos is still only available to premium users.
