Kate Middleton was overwhelmed by the change in her status after her marriage to Principal.
The Princess of Wales, who tied the knot with Prince William in 2011, felt a sudden change in her life when she met the crowd for the first time on her wedding day.
Speaking about the couple, lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Mail what was going through Kate’s mind:
Princess Kate then greeted the crowd, saying: “Look everyone,” William replied, “Yes, I can see, let’s shake hands like a married couple now.”
The moment “briefly overwhelmed Kate” who said: “Oh my God, we’re married.”
William then told Kate: “Ah, we’ll be fine. Wave to everyone.”
Royal commentator Richard Palmer recalls of the couple’s wedding, “It was the most perfect, wonderful day, a real show of the best of Britain.”
He tells the Mirror: “Many people really felt like they knew William and Kate as individuals, and while the popularity of the royal family fluctuated throughout Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, the marriage between William and Kate really ushered in a new era for the monarchy, and showcased the family at its best.
“There was so much interest in the royals at the time of their engagement, and it was the moment people wanted to see. They were a young and glamorous couple, and I think William being Princess Diana’s son also added to the emotion of the day for many people.”
