Queen Elizabeth II did not like emotional confrontation.
Her Majesty, who died in 2022, faced a difficult period when the late Princess Diana brought problems in her marriage to his attention.
In the book My Mother and I, royal expert Ingrid Seward wrote: “She waited on the emerald veranda next to the queen’s sitting room and as soon as a visitor left, she would go inside and throw herself at the queen’s mercy, crying repeatedly and telling her mother-in-law how much Charles hated her.”
Seward continued: “Not surprisingly, the Queen did not know what to do. This kind of emotional confrontation was completely alien to someone whose upbringing had insisted that manners were more important than feelings. As a result, she did nothing.”
Seward shared, “It was a low point in her relationship with her son and as the marriage spiraled out of control, Charles had to scream on the telephone to try to convince his mother.”
