A hiker was pronounced dead Saturday after being pulled from a ravine after falling on the Mount Wilson Trail.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department responded to a report shortly before noon that a male adult had fallen “a considerable distance,” the department said in a statement released Sunday.
Firefighter Pauline McGee said the incident occurred at the blaze at Mount Wilson Road and Little Santa Anita.
Crews from the Sheriff’s Temple Station, Air 5 Rescue Helicopter and Sierra Madre Search and Rescue teams responded, the statement said.
The report did not clarify whether the pedestrian died from injuries sustained in the fall or from a medical event. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded, saying that reports indicate that responding sheriff’s deputies administered CPR before declaring the man dead.
The circumstances of the fall remain under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, the sheriff’s statement said. It said the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office would respond to the scene to conduct its own investigation.
The Sheriff’s Department advised hikers to use caution on trails and be aware of changing terrain conditions.
Online trail review site AllTrails describes the 14-mile trail as “rocky, open and steep in many sections.”
