our labor in the lord
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, stand firm. Do not let anything distract you. Always devote yourself completely to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” – 1 Corinthians 15:58
There is a paradigm shift underway among those who remain confident in the workplace today. This paradigm shift focuses on using our business and work life as a platform for ministry versus just a platform for material success. Today there is a remnant of workplace believers around the world who understand that their birthright in the workplace is to fully reflect Christ in and through their work. This is reflected in their commitment to utilize their resources and skills to provide a product of excellence with the overall objective of influencing people for Jesus Christ. The difference is that these individuals have an overriding ministry purpose for their work.
When the Apostle Paul tells us to work solely for the Lord, he does not mean that we should work as missionaries in a “full-time Christian endeavor.” He understands that all life is sacred and sacred to God. If our purpose is to serve God where we are, then our labor is “not in vain in the Lord.”
As you begin your work today, ask God if you are working this day with the primary purpose of reflecting His life and character through your work. Don’t let anything distract you from this purpose that remains at the center of your activity. When this becomes your primary objective the Lord will reflect His power and leadership in and through your life.
