when god fights for us
“You are blessed when you are at the end of your rope. God is more when you have less.” -Matthew 5:3, The Message
Have you ever felt powerless? Have you ever felt like you’ve exhausted all resources, but still don’t have any answers? King Jehoshaphat and the tribe of Judah faced an unfortunate situation. He and his men faced an enemy that was impossible for them to defeat.
Jehoshaphat was king of Judah when he was threatened with war by the Moabites, Ammonites, and Meunites. These were areas that Israel did not invade when they came to the Promised Land from Egypt. The Bible says that their enemies included “a vast army.” When Jehoshaphat learned that they were coming to attack Judah, he became afraid and called for a fast for all of Judah. The people of Judah gathered and prayed and asked the Lord for an answer, remembering what He had done to bring the Israelites to the Promised Land.
“Our Lord, will you not judge them? Because we do not have the strength to withstand this huge army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” -2 Chronicles 20:12
Then the Spirit of God came upon a man of the lineage of the prophet Zechariah, prophesying victory over Judah and giving them supernatural instructions from the Lord:
“Listen, O King Jehoshaphat and all you inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or disheartened because of this huge army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. … Do not be afraid; do not be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.'” Verses 15-17.
The next morning, they set out to meet their enemies, appointing people to go ahead of the army and singing praises to God as they went. Amazingly, as they approached the battle site, the Lord confused their enemies, and they began fighting each other!
“As they began to sing and praise, the Lord attacked the people of Ammon, Moab, and the hill country of Seir who were attacking Judah, and they were defeated.” V.22
Is there a battle you have to let the Lord fight? If so, pray and ask Him to be your Avenger. Sometimes, we just need to step out in faith and become obedient. He is able to help us in any battle or struggle we face.
“And there was peace in the kingdom of Jehoshaphat, because his God had given him peace all around.” -2 History 20:30
