King Charles’s long-term romance with Queen Camilla before their marriage took a toll on Prince William’s relationship.
His Majesty, who married Queen Camilla in 2005, influenced his eldest son’s view of marriage and commitment.
Expert Russell Myers says in the new book, William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story: “Within weeks of his separation from Catherine (in 2007), he was having second thoughts, in the wake of his father’s decision in his twenties not to marry the love of his life, Camilla Shand.”
Myers wrote: “William did not want to make the same mistake and yet he was beset with doubt.”

Speaking about the couple’s brief breakup, she said, “At first, he texted and asked to speak, wondering if Katherine would even respond.”
“Catherine was not aware of William’s intentions and still did not want to give up her protection, the initial exchanges were tentative, if slightly cold.”
“William told him he was missing her and she pitched him the idea of ​​attending a party that had been in his diary for months,” the expert said.
