Very good! The people of those days must have been very bad indeed. Look at all those compound words: every, only, all the time. And all this troubled God greatly.
Some people, and even some societies, can go to very bad times. Notice where it starts – in the thoughts of their hearts. In the story that follows, God sends a flood to destroy everything contaminated by the evil and violence of that time.
Today, if the Spirit of Christ is at work in us, it must mean that we are not in danger of being “only bad all the time”, right? Well, let’s not joke. We can still be quite bad if we regularly allow the thoughts in our hearts to turn toward evil. Such thoughts will not turn us away from the saving power of Christ, but they will allow Satan to use us for evil purposes. Bad thoughts will also separate us from God’s will and the good He has in mind for us.
So let’s see the thoughts of our hearts. We need to keep an eye on them. We need to identify which thoughts are good and which are bad. We have to counter the evil ones.
Jesus saves us from the flood of judgment, but the struggle against evil will continue until His return. In the power of the Lord and by the power of His Spirit, we can turn away from evil and strive to do good.
