Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani remains in the hospital in serious but stable condition, according to a statement issued by his spokesman on Sunday.
“Mayor Giuliani is a warrior who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he is fighting back with the same level of strength as we speak,” spokesman Ted Goodman wrote on Twitter.
No details were given about the reason for the 81-year-old man’s hospitalization.
Giuliani recently appeared on his online program America’s Mayor Live, where he told the audience that his “voice is a little sore because of the weather, so I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do.”
He was also seen coughing several times during the broadcast.
Messages of support started pouring in soon after the announcement. Former Eric Adams wished Giuliani “strength, good health and a full recovery,” saying the moment “rises above politics.”
Donald Trump also praised Giuliani on Truth Social, calling him a “true warrior and the best mayor in the history of New York City.”
Giuliani became widely known for leading New York after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and earned him the nickname “America’s Mayor”.
In recent years, he has faced several legal and financial challenges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 US presidential election results.
