TL;DR
- Spotify may soon get a highly requested feature.
- A string of codes found in the app suggests that you may soon be able to control the playback speed of music.
- Spotify already offers playback speed controls for podcasts.
Earlier this morning, we revealed that Spotify is testing a “bulk redownload” tool, designed to help users automatically upgrade offline music to higher quality levels. This is something that users have been requesting for lossless music for a long time. But that tool isn’t the only highly requested feature in the works for the streaming app.
Currently, Spotify lets you adjust the playback speed for podcasts. Although it’s not that I personally choose to enjoy what I’m listening to, it is undeniable that the option to speed up or slow down playback is very popular. Of course, each has his own. This option is not available for Music, but that may change in the near future.

We recently updated to version 9.1.48.148 of the Spotify app. In our investigation, we found a string of code that suggests you’ll soon be able to change the song speed.
code
Change song speed .
Based on this string alone, it’s unclear if and when this feature will be implemented, what speeds will be available. Given that playback speed controls for podcasts on Spotify range from 0.5x to 3.5x, it’s reasonable to assume that the same options will be available for music. It’s also unclear whether the feature will be available to both free and premium users, as it is for podcasts.
