Luke 22:14-30

¹⁴ When the time came, Jesus sat at the table with the twelve apostles. ¹⁵ He said to them, “I have longed to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” ¹⁶ For I tell you, I will never eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ He took the cup, gave thanks, and said, take this and divide it among you. ¹⁸ For I say to you, I will never drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.

Lord’s Supper

¹⁹ He took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” ²⁰ Similarly, after the supper he took the cup and said, “This cup is the new testament ⁽¹⁾ In my blood, which is being shed for you.

²¹ “But look, the hand of the one who will betray me is on the table with my hand. ²² The Son of Man will go as he has decided, but woe to the man by whom he has been betrayed!”

²³ They started discussing among themselves as to which of them was going to do this.

Who is the greatest?

²⁴ A dispute broke out among the disciples as to who among them should be considered the greatest. ²⁵ But he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who rule over them are called tributaries. ²⁶ But this should not happen to you. Instead, let the eldest among you become like the youngest, and let the one who leads become like one who serves. ²⁷ For which is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Isn’t this the one sitting at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. ²⁸ You are the one who stayed with me through my trials. ²⁹ I will give you the same kingdom as my father gave me. ³⁰ So that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. And you will sit on the throne and judge the twelve tribes of Israel.”
