Apple recently decided to allow users to select from third-party artificial intelligence AI models for tasks like creating and editing text and images in its iOS 27 features.
Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday that this change has been fixed for iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.
Within iOS 27, Apple refers to this capability as “Extensions” that let users choose through the Settings app which AI services they want to power Apple Intelligence features.
The update will allow users to choose from among AI model providers who opt-in by adding compatibility through their App Store applications.
As of today, Apple is at least testing Alphabet’s integration with Google and Anthropic internally, the report said.
The development comes as Apple looks to close the gap with rivals Alphabet and Microsoft, which have moved to introduce AI features faster.
Last week, the tech giant said it expects sales growth of 14% to 17% in the third quarter, higher than Wall Street’s estimate of 9.5% growth, citing strong demand for its flagship iPhone 17 and MacBook Neo.
Additionally, Google’s Gemini is expected to power Apple’s revamped Siri coming this year.
