Famous English comedian and musician Bill Bailey praised King Charles as he received an MBE for his services.
On Tuesday, May 5, at Windsor Castle, Princess Anne awarded Bailey an MBE for her contribution to the world of entertainment.
While receiving her award, Bailey praised Her Majesty’s “wit” and “comedy”, referring to her subtle jabs at United States President Donald Trump during his address to Congress.
For those unaware, King Charles was on a four-day state visit to the United States, where he delivered a 30-minute speech to Congress, becoming the second royal to do so since his late mother Queen Elizabeth II addressed Congress in 1991.
During his speech, Charles took a dig at Trump’s public dismissal of the international organization and jokingly reminded him that the United States would speak French without Britain, in response to Trump’s statement that Britain would speak German without the United States.
Expressing his thoughts about the British monarch’s “beautifully measured” and “witty” response, Bailey said after the program, “We talked about comedy, talked about the importance of humor, and pointed out how well the King did in his speech to Congress in America.”
“It was funny, it was beautifully measured. And it shows that, really, comedy has a way of flying under the radar a little bit. It has a wonderful quality to it.”
“I think (King Charles) is underrated as an orator. I think he’s always been a great orator, but I think (the state visit) really showed that side of it,” Bailey said.
It is pertinent to mention that King Charles’s high-level visit to the United States began on April 27 and ended on April 30.
