Who is Lady Jane Grey?
Jane Gray was the niece of the late King of England, Henry VIII, who was fourth in power after his son Edward VI and his daughters, Mary and Elizabeth.
However, when the king died in 1547, Edward, who was only nine years old, succeeded to the throne. But a few years later Edward also fell ill and John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, who was striving to rise to the top, played on fear and convinced Edward to make Jane the next heir after him because Jane was married to the Duke’s son.
Jane became queen after the Edwardses died, but only for nine days, as Mary, Edward’s sister, took back the throne as the third heir apparent and Jane was beheaded in 1554. Jane was 17 years old at that time.
