Shenandoah Valley residents should remain cautious as strong south-southwesterly winds (10-20 mph), low humidity and dry brush pose a significant wildfire risk. Today will be very warm and breezy with partly sunny skies and a high of 81°F.
A storm system moving in from the Great Lakes will bring light rain late tonight, followed by thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, temperatures will remain mild till Wednesday before a drop in temperatures due to cold winds starting Thursday.
The heaviest rainfall is expected Wednesday night and Thursday night, with computer models projecting rainfall totals between a half-inch to an inch.
After reaching 73°F on Wednesday, a cold front will move through the area, dropping Thursday’s high to 59°F with rain. Wednesday night will be cloudy and rainy with an overnight low of 56°F and light west-northwesterly winds.
While Thursday brings cooler temperatures and rain, skies will begin to clear by Thursday night as lows will drop to 44°F. Friday will be partly sunny followed by partly cloudy skies with a low of 42°F. For the weekend, Saturday will see cloudy skies and a high of 65°F.
The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday night, leaving Friday and Saturday cooler but clear with highs in the mid 60s.
