Things are not going well for Delhi Capitals (DC) both on and off the field. Delhi Capitals have already found themselves in a difficult position after losing six out of their ten matches so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026).
The Capitals are now almost out of the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs and the pressure is not just on the players but also on the people running the franchise. They have been a part of the Indian Premier League since the beginning, but they are still waiting for their first title.
Delhi Capitals’ struggle continues over change in ownership terms after IPL 2026
After another poor season, there could be a change in DC’s dual ownership starting next season. This season did not go their way, forcing the owners to change their strategy.
Currently, DC is owned by two groups – GMR and Jindal, and both take turns running the team every two years. Now, a new idea is being discussed as the team has not been able to follow a clear direction for long with this two-year cycle.
Delhi Capitals rethinking strategy as two-year cycle fails to deliver results
According to a Cricblogger report, GMR wants to extend this cycle from two years to three years, to give a group more time to plan and build the team properly to bring consistency.
As per the current arrangement, the Jindal Group is expected to take control of the IPL in 2027. But before that happens, both owners will sit down after the conclusion of this season and discuss this new plan. Interestingly, when GMR took over the team, the results were not good for DC.
But under Jindal, Delhi reached the playoffs several times. Another reason for this proposed change is the IPL mega auction cycle. If a group gets three years, they can build a team in the auction and then stick to their plan without making many changes in management.
Ideally we would like Kuldeep Yadav to be better than this: Hemang Badani
Meanwhile, things have turned worse for Delhi Capitals after their 8-wicket loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and all the attention has now shifted to Kuldeep Yadav, who has been struggling badly this season. DC head coach Hemang Badani is hopeful that Kuldeep can get back to his form as the team’s playoff chances are now in danger.

Kuldeep has had a bad season so far with Delhi Capitals. His economy rate has gone above 10 and the spinner has taken only 7 wickets in 10 matches so far this season.
“Ideally we would like Kuldeep to be better than this. But we will rally around him. He is someone who has been a part of this team for many years. He has performed well for many years. He can turn it around,” PTI quoted Badani as saying.
“I think it’s a matter of someone’s great form. He hasn’t hit peak form yet. He hasn’t bowled at the pace he normally does. And I think it’s a question of timing. I mean, we have confidence in him,” the coach said.
