As a quick recap, following the rollout of a patch in April, Galaxy XR users identified a serious memory leak affecting their units. Users reported that the headset’s memory usage would steadily increase over a period of 20 to 30 minutes until it reached the breaking point. Once the total capacity was exceeded, it became almost impossible to use the hardware, with frame rates “dive bombing”. At the height of the complaints, Google acknowledged the problem and made fixing it an “absolute top priority.”
At the time, Google did not provide a timeline for when any fixes would be implemented. However, it looks like the team took action as quickly as possible, as a patch is now coming out. Courtesy of Google’s Community Team It has been announced via Reddit that version I610UEU2AZD8 is now available.
Although no changelog was shared, the post says that the patch introduces “a series of system stability and performance optimizations based on the feedback we received regarding the latest software update.” Grace from Google recommends going Settings > Software Update To download and install the update.
Based on comments on the announcement, it appears that the update has indeed fixed the issue for some people. One user mentions that tracking issues have been resolved; However, there may be a new problem with virtual desktops. In particular, moving the cursor on/off on a virtual display results in “corrupted/distorted frames”.
