TL;DR
- Android boss Sameer Samat has dismissed concerns that the platform will get an Apple-style liquid glass redesign.
- This denial comes after they posted a teaser video showing off a glass-looking Android mascot.
- Samat said an Apple-style overhaul “is not happening!”
Google is set to hold the Android Show event on May 12, where it is expected to announce several updates to the Android ecosystem. The company recently posted a teaser video for the event, and it has some people worried that Android might be getting a liquid glass makeover.
15 second teaser videoPosted on Twitter by Android boss Samir Samat, the Bugdroid mascot is shown pulling a light switch. The robot then takes on an opaque, glassy appearance. Needless to say, many users in the thread reacted with concern that an Apple-style Liquid Glass overhaul is coming.
Don’t want to miss the best of Android Authority?

Thankfully, Samat and fellow Googlers Mishal Rehman has rejected these concerns. The Android boss specifically told some users that an Apple-inspired redesign was not happening.
We’re glad Google has refused to make Apple-inspired changes to Android. The company updated Android last year with the Material 3 expressive visual style, and we generally thought it was a great move. This redesign included more blur effects, new animations, refreshed icon shapes and typography, and an overhauled, fully customizable quick settings menu. So we hope Google continues to follow suit with upcoming Android releases.
The Android Show will take place on May 12 at 1:00 pm ET and will be streamed via YouTube. We’re expecting more Android 17 news as well as additional details about the firm’s desktop-focused Aluminum OS project. But we are also prepared for some surprises on that day.
