Recently, during a discussion, a former England cricketer talked about Vaibhav’s retirement. Jokingly, Phil Tufnell claimed that the Indian batsman may retire when he turns 21.
England legends Michael Vaughan, Alastair Cook, Phil Tufnell and David Lloyd were involved in a group discussion in the recent episode of ‘Stick to Cricket’ podcast. Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals was also a topic of discussion.
Michael Vaughan compares Suryavanshi with Gayle and Abhishek Sharma
Former England captain Michael Vaughan compared Chris Gayle’s version of the century to Suryavanshi’s century in the Indian Premier League. Gayle registered his historic IPL century in just 30 balls, while the 15-year-old opening batsman took 35 balls to bring up his century for Rajasthan Royals. Vaughan also compared this Bihar-born player with Abhishek Sharma.
The speed at which Suryavanshi is scoring runs and his brilliant performance, he is very close to breaking Abhishek’s record. Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Abhishek Sharma hit 42 sixes in one season of the league. Suryavanshi has got 37 runs in IPL 2026 and is just 6 sixes away from breaking the record.
Michael Vaughan pointed out, “Chris Gayle has the fastest IPL century in 30 balls, and this kid has already hit a century in 35 balls. The record for most sixes hit in a season by an Indian is held by Abhishek Sharma (42 sixes), and this guy has already reached 37.”
Alastair Cook also agrees with the same opinion that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the best six-hitting player in the world at present. Cook could hardly have imagined what the price would be for the batsman if he ever went to an auction in the future.
“Imagine where his price would go if he expressed his desire to go to auction again next year?” Alastair Cook raised the question.
“Maybe he’ll get tired by the time he’s 21.”
During the discussion, Phil Tufnell jokingly said that by the age of 21, Vaibhav Suryavanshi can reach the top position and can think about retirement at an early age.
The former cricketer said, “By the time he turns 21, he may get tired. By then he will have enough money to retire.”
