What you need to know
- Nothing is launching a new blue version of the Ear (Open) on May 11, adding a bolder option to its audio lineup.
- The update is entirely cosmetic, with the same open-ear design and hardware intact.
- You still get 14.2mm drivers, an AI-powered microphone, up to 30 hours of battery life, and IP54 dust and splash resistance.
Nothing is updating its most unconventional earbuds with a new look. Earlier this week, the company teased fans with a Pokémon-themed post, with a character named Fluffy previously linked to it. Ear (open) projection. Now, Nothing has confirmed that the blue version of Ear (Unlocked) is officially coming.
According to Nothing, the new colorway will be available on May 11, joining the existing white version. This is not a full hardware update or a new model. For those who want to listen to music without blocking out their surroundings, there’s nothing like having open-ear earbuds.
Open ear design stays in focus
This means that the earcup (open) sits right outside the ear and allows ambient sound to pass through, rather than sealing your ear canal. This design is better for runners, cyclists, travelers, or anyone who dislikes the isolated feeling of noise-canceling earbuds.
Nothing else seems to be changing inside. The earbuds still have the same lightweight open-ear design, 14.2mm dynamic drivers, AI-powered microphone, and up to 30 hours of playback with the charging case. They also have an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, so they’re suitable for workouts and outdoor use.
Android Central’s Tech
A new color is better than nothing (pun intended). Still, it’s fair to say that Nothing simply picked a different Pantone color, called it a launch, and expected us to get excited. And honestly, we probably would be. After all, white earbuds are boring, and blue earbuds are more likely to attract attention on the train.
These earbuds focus on awareness and comfort rather than complete immersion, and that’s by design. Unlike sealed earbuds with active noise canceling, they’re built to keep you aware of traffic, conversations, and your surroundings, while also delivering punchy bass for an open-ear style.
Recently, Nothing has been using color more as part of its brand identity. The company has tried special finishes on its phones and audio products before, and the new blue Ear (Open) seems to be another way to stand out in a market saturated with black and white earbuds.
