TL;DR
- The OnePlus Nord CE 6 is reportedly getting only two years of Android updates (up to Android 18), while four years were promised for the Nord CE 5 (up to Android 19).
- OnePlus’ launch materials for the Nord CE 6 promise six years of “system flow”, but avoid specific commitments regarding platform or security update counts.
- The older Nord CE 5 offers a longer overall support lifecycle, including six years of security updates compared to the four years reported for the Nord CE 6.
OnePlus is showing signs of trouble in some global regions, but the company is moving forward confidently with launches in other regions. The company launched devices like the Nord 6 and Pad Pro last month, and just yesterday it added another phone to its portfolio: the OnePlus Nord CE 6. However, there is one curious detail about the Nord CE6 flying under the radar: OnePlus is offering fewer update commitments for this new phone than its predecessor.
According to leaker OnePlus Club xOnePlus Nord CE 6 will receive software update to Android 18. On the other hand, the older OnePlus Nord CE 5 will receive a software update to Android 19.

There is no mention of the promise of software updates in the launch material about the OnePlus Nord CE6, only the promise that the phone experience will remain fast and smooth for six years, but apparently no platform or security updates have been promised:
Running on the latest OxygenOS 16, the OnePlus Nord CE6 offers a smooth and intuitive user experience. Built to last, this experience is backed by OnePlus’ promise of a fast and smooth experience for six years, ensuring long-term system fluency and reliability.
The OnePlus Nord CE 5, on the other hand, was launched with Oxygen OS 15 based on Android 15, and is promised four Android updates (up to Android 19) and six years of security updates.
GSMArena “Other sources” revealed that the Nord CE 6 will only receive two years of Android updates and four years of security updates. This is a clear downgrade from the update promise, and even if you bought the old phone today, you’d still get a lengthy update experience until the end of the product’s lifecycle (assuming OnePlus lives up to its promise).
We’ve contacted OnePlus for comments and to learn more about the software update commitment on the Nord CE 6. We will update this article when we get more information.
Why exactly OnePlus downgraded its software update commitment is a question best left to the company to answer. But if it is no longer making long-term promises like before, it raises doubts about its long-term plans.
