There’s no reason that shopping for dresses for wedding guests should be any more difficult than shopping for any other occasion, yet whenever I sit down to consider it, finding the right style feels near impossible. I have several weddings on my calendar this year, which means I’m spending a lot of time finding dresses to wear for each of them while keeping in mind the weather, setting, and dress code on the invitations. However, today, I’m looking at the top wedding-guest trends of the moment.
We’ve already reported on the biggest bridal fashion trends for 2026 brides, but now it’s time to discuss the trends that are shaping what. guests Will wear it in weddings this year. There are already several themes emerging, from trending colors to personality-driven accessories that define extravagant outfits, these are all the elements that define a winning wedding-guest look this year. After comprehensively analyzing wedding trends, 2026 dress trends and chatting with bridal stylists and fashion editors Corinne Pierre-Louis and bridal stylist Kennedy Schmidt
Consider Skipping: the scarf neckline
“Scarf necklines have been everywhere lately (on brides and guests alike), and I think the trend is doing its thing,” says Pierre-Louis. “As we enter the 2026 wedding season, I’d love to see guests lean into other silhouettes like the soft off-the-shoulder neckline, which is a great alternative.”

built-in hardware
Of course, not every wedding-guest look has to be the loudest (especially so as not to upset the bride), and another minimalist trend that’s on the rise at the moment is built-in hardware. It’s all about sleek and light-hearted silhouettes that, with a single sculptural detail, are simple but hardly boring.
dramatic draping
Each season, there’s always some inevitable crossover between what’s trending on the runway and at the wedding venue, and the draped dress is a defining trend for both this year. “Architectural dressing is having a major moment,” Schmidt confirms, “especially for black tie weddings. The structured draping, exaggerated shapes, and couture-inspired construction make these gowns feel modern, directional, and almost like wearable art.”

secretly sexy
Yes, that’s right, sexy is back – delicious, of course. “The attire of wedding guests has certainly become sexier, but in a heightened way,” confirms Pierre-Louis. It not only looks like a body-skimming silhouette, but also features open backs, subtle and secret cutouts that show a bit of skin in an elevated and secret way. “Tasteful is the keyword here,” says Pierre-Louis—”don’t wear something to someone’s wedding that you could also wear to the club.”
personality pieces
“The guests are having a lot of fun with fashion,” explains Pierre-Louis. “They’re leaning toward bold styling, vintage finds and statement accessories that match the locale (i.e., a seashell clutch for a beach wedding).” In 2026, it’s all about these statement pieces, but especially unique bags that ooze personality and are instant conversation starters. A styling note from Pierre-Louis? “Please, please make sure your personal style still aligns with the couple’s dress code. It’s great to be memorable, but not when you’re wearing a short dress to a black-tie ceremony.”
