On Monday, Cricket Australia announced the squads for Australia’s upcoming ODI and T20I series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Australia will play 3 ODI matches against Pakistan from 30 May to 4 June. This means the series will clash with the IPL final, which is currently scheduled for May 31. Later in June, Australia will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against Bangladesh from June 9 to June 21.
These three series will be foreign series for Australia. CA has decided to call many uncapped and fringe players for these three series.
key points
- Australia Under-19 captain Ollie Peake has been included in the international squad for the first time for the Pakistan ODI series.
- Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will miss the white-ball tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
- Several IPL stars including Travis Head and Cameron Green will rejoin Australia after the Pakistan ODI.
- In Cummins’s absence, Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia in the ODI and T20 series.
‘Big three’ fast bowlers missing from the team
Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, collectively known as Australia’s ‘Big Three’ pacers, are missing from all three teams. Cricket Australia has currently decided not to recall any player from the IPL for the upcoming matches.
Starc has retired from T20Is, while Cummins is Australia’s full-time ODI captain. All three of them are currently in IPL. While Starc’s Delhi Capitals currently look out of the playoff race, Cummins’s Sunrisers Hyderabad, whom he also captains, and Hazlewood’s Royal Challengers Bangalore are in contention to make the top four.
In Cummins’ absence, full-time T20I captain Mitchell Marsh will lead the ODI team. Marsh is also currently in the IPL, but he is playing for Lucknow Super Giants, who are already out of the playoff race.
The absence of the ‘Big Three’ has also been explained as a workload management measure as Australia are set to play 20 Tests over a period of approximately 15 months following the white-ball tour.
Other big names like Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis are also missing from the team. All three have retired from ODIs, but will be available for selection in T20.
Green, Head and Inglis included in Australia ODI team
Mitchell Marsh’s IPL teammate Josh Inglis and all-rounder Cameron Green have been selected in all three teams. Green is playing for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026 and they too are on the verge of being eliminated from the tournament.
Travis Head (SRH), Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshius and Xavier Bartlett (all Punjab Kings) have been left out of the ODI squad against Pakistan, but have been selected for the ODI against Bangladesh. Dwarshis has been ruled out of the T20Is, replaced by left-arm fast bowler Spencer Johnson. All-rounder Aaron Hardy will also play only the T20 series.

Many uncapped players get call-ups with fringe giants
Some uncapped players have also received calls from Australian selectors. Most notably, Ollie Peak.
Peak was the captain of Australia in the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year and he led his team to the semi-finals. In fact, Australia was undefeated in the tournament until losing to England in the semi-finals. With 2 centuries in 4 innings, Peake finished the tournament as Australia’s second highest run-scorer.
Peak has been called only for the series against Pakistan. All-rounder Liam Scott and left-arm spinner Joel Davis are the other uncapped players called up to the squad.
Scott is a part of both the ODI series, but not the T20 series. Davis is part of the ODIs in Pakistan and T20Is in Bangladesh.
Apart from him, some other veterans have also been called. Left-arm fast bowler Billy Stanlake, who has not played for Australia since 2019, has been included in the squad against Pakistan, along with all-rounder Matt Short. Wicketkeeper Josh Philippe has been included in the T20 squad only.
Like Davis, fast bowler Riley Meredith – who last played ODIs in 2021 and T20Is in 2024 – has only been included in the Pakistan ODIs and Bangladesh T20Is. Despite not being officially part of the team, both of them will be with the team during the ODI in Bangladesh.
